It’s the method you use to make your website appear higher in search results.
We’ll compare searching online to gossiping. With gossiping, information is created, then shared. Let’s say two people in a larger group of friends had a disagreement. Four other people in the friend group saw it happen. The friends who weren’t there are going to want the story. And, the story that has the most relevant, quality information, will be shared more.
In situations like this, there’s always one person who’s the keeper of the gossip. They collect all the stories, and if someone else goes to ask them what happened in a situation, they’ll tell you the best and most comprehensive story.
Think about this person as the search engine. When you ask them a question, they give you the answer with the best information, according to what you asked.
There’s another part of gossip that can relate to SEO, and that’s keywords.
Let’s imagine you’re part of this group of friends. You’re all hanging out, there are a bunch of conversations going on. Your ears perk up when you hear the words “big fight” “Dan and Melissa” “not speaking.” Then you start tuning in. You’ve heard the keywords relevant to your interest, so you listened.
Bringing our metaphor full circle: online, the website with most relevant details and information, with more keywords, will come up higher in search. So how does this apply to you?
For your SEO, you have several things to think about. These are:
Architecture, meaning how well your site is organized.
Domain name. Naturally, it should contain your business name and brand.
Site description and titles.
Images and videos.
Each website is scanned in stages. Starting with the URL, then the title, the description, and finally the content.
Well, what does this mean for you? It means that you have to have fresh, original, consistently updated content. You also need a good domain name, page titles and descriptions. Titles and descriptions help search engines identify what the site is about. Each page on a website has its own. With Wix it’s easy to update your page titles and descriptions.
Inside the editor, click on the Pages menu here.
Hover over the page you want to fill in SEO details for, click this button and select Page SEO.
Here’s where you can work your magic. Add in your page title, description, keywords and URL, which will make it more appealing to Google and other search engines. When you think about keywords, focus not on what you’re trying to convey, rather what people will search for to find your site.
Of course, the content here depends on whatever’s on your page, but here are some tips:
Title length should be 70 characters
Don’t use more than three keywords in the description.
Make sure one of the keywords is your location, if you have a location-based business.
Write like a human! The keywords you include in your text should make sense with the rest of the copy. So when someone’s reading it, it will sound natural.
Before publishing your website, make sure each of your site’s pages have SEO settings completed, with different titles and descriptions on each, so you’ll receive higher rankings.
And here are some tips for going forward:
Continue updating your site so it has regular, fresh content.
Include relevant, internal and external links in your copy.
Add links to social networks.
Make sure your business and website are listed on directories.
